Has anyone used the MBROLA speech synthesizer? If so, how difficult is it to set up and opperate? I just found the impossible, MBROLA, a totally software synth can be used with MS-DOS.

The Interface program is designed to work with the JAWS screenreader, so I'm not sure if it'll work either on Enhanced DR-DOS or with another screenreader but this is so cool! Everyone tole me it was practically impossible to do this and here it is. They even have special enhancements for Lynx and Pine. But I'd still have to get the stack drivers etc, bla. Ah well, one thing at a time.

Is that the same as ESpeak? If so I have it. It came as part of the latest version of Klango. I'm not big on the voice quality, but yet by the same token it does kinda stir up fond memories of my early computer using days. Anybody here remember the Apple 2E and the old Echo synthesizer?

I think ESpeak was written using another engine but am not sure. I'll have to explore that option, since it's multiplatform. I've got an Apple IIC and an Apple IIGS and the Echo LT for them, as well as two Echo PCs, one with the knob that sticks out and the other with a round dial mostly in the machine. As a matter of fact, if MBROLA or ESpeak don't work, I'll have to use an Echo for this project, unless I wanna use my Braille Blazer or maybe my Braillenote if my screenreader can support it disguised as a Keynote SA or a generic serial synth. If anyone knows where I could get a real Keynote SA that would be appreciated. But I'd really love to be able to use a software synth here.
